Pet-Friendly South Walton: Fun with Furry Friends
Can't leave home without your four-legged sidekick? Fret not, because there's plenty of pet-friendly fun to be had in South Walton. While only service dogs and the permitted dogs of property owners are allowed on public beaches, there are plenty of other places to enjoy with your pet across our 16 beach neighborhoods.
First, find the perfect place to stay. When searching VisitSouthWalton.com/Stay for accommodations, make sure you select the "Pets Allowed" filter. There are many great options, from beachfront spots to homes with private pools, in the beach neighborhood of your choice. After all, what's more important than making sure your pet has the right amenities?
Next, plan out the ultimate walk. There are more than 200 miles of nature trails across four state parks and the 15,000-acre Point Washington State Forest. The sights and smells of these natural areas create the ultimate doggie paradise. Leash up and explore local nature and history, and be sure to check out the coastal dune lakes. If your dog's a swimmer, rent a stand-up paddleboard and make a splash together! Your daily walk around the block can't hold a candle to this.
After your outdoor exploration, show your buddy he's a good boy by taking him shopping for treats and toys. Bow Wow Meow Pet Company in Seagrove offers a fantastic selection of healthy and organic food for your dog, as well as a line of pet clothing and accessories. They also have self-service dog washing stations in case your pooch finds the inevitable mud puddle on your walk! Or check out Furry Fanatics in Santa Rosa Beach, a locally-owned and run pet store with a complete selection of all-natural pet foods and treats at affordable prices. They also offer a list of grooming services via Dapper Dogs and doggy daycare by Destination Boarding.
All that fun can work up quite an appetite! Fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants with outdoor patios that welcome dogs. There's nothing like sharing a bite with a buddy by the beach. It's always a good idea to check ahead, but Bud & Alley's, The Bay and The Perfect Pig typically welcome four-legged friends.
Finally, if your pooch needs to spend a little time with canine pals, the county's dog park in Santa Rosa Beach (330 J.D. Miller Road) is a great place to let your dog run free with friends. With sections for small, large and senior pups, your dog will fit right in. And if all goes well, maybe they'll burn off a little of that energy, too!
